“But always– do not forget this, Winston–always there will be the intoxication of power, constantly increasing and constantly growing subtler. Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face–forever.”
From the book “1984” by George Orwell
“If we lose freedom here, there is no place to escape to. This is the last stand on Earth” – Ronald Reagan
Much of the population of the world lives in countries that are not free and preach against freedom. This includes China, with a population greater than any other country. This includes Russia, with a land area greater than any other country. This includes much of the Moslem world which spans vast territories and populations. This includes the newly socialist countries in Latin America like Venezuela, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Uruguay, Cuba, etc. The leader of Brazil, Lula Da Silva, once had a leadership role in the “Sao Paulo Forum” described as the “backbone of Communism and Terrorism in Latin America”. Lula presides over 170 million people. He may seem moderate now (apart from shmoozing with the leader of Iran), but based on statements and past actions of his, he ain’t no moderate.
Many of these peoples are subjected to preaching that the United States, in particular, must be defeated.
For instance, Hugo Chavez, leader of Venezuela said “Arab civilization and our civilization, the Latin American one, are being summoned in this new century to play the fundamental role of liberating the world, saving the world from the imperialism and capitalist hegemony that threaten the human species, Syria and Venezuela are at the vanguard of this struggle.”
Countries like Russia are involved in supplying large quantities of arms to both these countries.
According to Moscow Blogger Veronica Kamenskaya, neither the Russian government nor much of the Russian people believe in democracy.
After the demise of the United States space shuttle, Columbia, some celebratory cheering was posted on Chinese websites.
In an article written for the United States web forum ObserveChina.com, the Beijing-based Chinese writer Liu Xiaobo conducted some quantitative analysis on the postings of the major Chinese Internet opinion forums. His study leads him to the conclusion that although the rejoicing rhetoric on these Internet sites are not as prevalent as that in the immediate aftermath of the September 11th terrorist attacks on the U.S., a whopping 50% of the postings that have appeared on China’s two leading Internet services, “sina.com” and “netease.com” are anti-American gloating over the tragedy of the Columbia.
China’s exiled dissidents in the United States are often confronted with hostility from Chinese students, who question the dissidents’ patriotism and attack their character, all because they have challenged the authority of the Chinese communist regime. Xiao Qiang, the Executive Director of the New York-based Human Rights in China, reports that his efforts to hold China accountable for its repression have been branded at various times by overseas Chinese students as “harmful” to the Chinese people and “disloyal” to the Chinese nation
After 9/11, there was significant cheering in parts of the Moslem world. I seem to remember that Osama became a popular first name for children (Osama Bin Laden was responsible for the killing of thousands of Americans at 9/11/2001).
In Sep 27, 2007 it was reported that “During the Islamic “holy month” of Ramadan, children in Egypt are buying special Ramadan lanterns illustrated with the face of Osama bin Laden—and they’re so popular, they’re sold out.”
The U.S. is becoming an increasingly weak and isolated power. The enemies of the U.S. get stronger every day. Allies like Turkey and Iran become enemies. China is becoming the world’s greatest economic power. Russian and Chinese military technology get more and more formidable. Iran will get nuclear weapons. North Korea and Pakistan already have them, and its inevitable that more ambitious ideological countries, even if they are small, will get them. Hezbollah personnel cross our southern border along with the illegal aliens. Our government is spending us into bankruptcy and is largely responsible for our huge unemployment and huge debt.
So is the victory of evil at hand? I think so. Without a free and strong United States, nobody will be free anywhere.
